Author Guidelines

Submission Preparation

Articles can be written in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The maximum length of the work is 26 pages, including cited bibliography, tables, figures and legends.

Authors are obliged to verify compliance with the rules before submitting their works to the editorial committee. Articles that do not comply with the rules will be returned to the authors.

Along with the manuscript, a cover letter must be included, in which you mention the following details:

• Full title of the manuscript.
• Main results of the research
• Relation between the research and the objectives and scope of Folia Amazónica.
• Contributions of the research
• List of the authors, including emails, ORCID, and authors’ contributions to the research.

Authorship

Authors listed on the manuscript must mention their contribution in the Cover Letter. Folia Amazónica follows the CRediT taxonomy to define the contributions of the authors. Contribution roles can be reviewed at the following link Authors contribution_ENG.xlsx

It is not necessary to use all of the items mentioned, and only those considered appropriate for your research should be used.

The authors of the manuscript are responsible for the content, during and after publication.

 

Format and Style

Papers must be prepared in a word processor (with DOC extension), using a 12 pt. "Arial" font, and double spaced, with 3 cm page margins. All pages must be numbered.

The manuscript must be presented with the following structure and in the following order:

1. a) Title: in capital letters, except for scientific names that follow international nomenclature, must be left-justified.
2. b) Authors' names and affiliations: first name (indicated by the first initial in capital letters), surnames (capital letters), author affiliation with superscript in Arabic numerals.
3. c) Authors' data: Institution (s) where the authors work, with the complete address and e-mail of the main author (s) for correspondence.
4. d) Summary: a maximum length of 250 words, succinctly stating the objectives of the research, analytical or observational methods, the main discoveries or results and the main conclusions, emphasizing important aspects of the study or observation. The scientific names of species and Latin terms must be in italics.
5. e) Keywords: Three to five terms or words must be provided after the abstract. For works submitted in Portuguese or Spanish, include three to five key words in English or key words after the abstract. 
6. f) Title in English: Left-justified, in capital letters, scientific names in the title must be written according to the international taxonomic nomenclature. The title in English must be placed before the abstract.
7. g) Abstract: For works in Spanish or Portuguese, an English summary/abstract must be included. For works submitted in English, include a summary in Spanish.
8. h) Introduction: It should emphasize the purpose of the study and provide a summary of the relevant previous studies, in addition to specifying the advances that the research intends to achieve. It should not include data or conclusions of the work in question.
9. i) Material and Methods: A clear and concisely summarized explanation of the procedures carried out that can allow the for study to be repeated by other researchers must be included. Standardized techniques can be referenced without further elaboration. The units of measurements and their abbreviations will follow the International System and, when necessary, a list with the abbreviations used must be included. Witness material (vouchers) must be deposited in one or more scientific collections and reported in the manuscript. Legal and Ethical Aspects: When describing experiments involving or related to humans, indicate the Ethics Committee by which the work was approved (Ministry of Health) and the approval number of the work by the Ethics Committee. For works whose nature requires other specific ethical or legal permits (SERNAM, Department of Flora and Fauna, others), the registered authorization number must be reported, along with the date of authorization or specific protocol number.
10. j) Results. They must indicate a concise and objective description of the information discovered. Do not repeat all the data contained in the tables and figures. Numbers must be followed by a space and the units (60 °C and NOT 60°C) except for percentages ­(5% NOT 5 %). Use standardized international units and symbols and exponential symbology (for example: cmol kg-1 instead of meq / 100g). For English texts, decimals must be separated by a period and not a comma (23.50 and NOT 23,50).
11. k) Discussion. It should be limited to the meaning of the results and relate them to existing information, preferably the most recent. Only indispensable citations should be included. At the authors' discretion, the results and discussion can be presented together. 
12. l) Conclusions (Optional section). The results achieved in the study can be emphasized separately on this section or be implicit in the discussion. 
13. m) Acknowledgments (Optional section). They should be short and concise.
14. n) Bibliographic References. They will be presented at the end of the text in alphabetical order and must be restricted to the citations that appear in the text. In this section, the names of the journals should be fully cited.

Text citations:

In- text citations of bibliographic references will be reported in the following fashion:

- One author: Delgado (1994) or (Delgado, 1994).

- Two authors: Castro & Dávila (2005) or (Castro & Dávila, 2005).

- Three or more authors: Zegarra et al . (2001) or (Zegarra et al ., 2001).

- When there is more than one reference to the same sentence, cite the sources in chronological and alphabetical order, separated by semicolons. For example: Castro et al., 1991; Ferreira et al., 2001 or (Fonseca et al., 1991; Ferreira et al ., 2001).

 

Figures

Photographs, illustrations and graphics are considered figures and must be of good quality, with high contrast, in color or in B/W, numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals. A figure number, title and description must be placed below each figure.

Figures must be limited to a maximum of five (5) per article. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to configure the illustrative material in the most appropriate way, without compromising its meaning and presentation.

Scales must be indicated by a line or bar in the figure and, if necessary, be explained in the legend (for example, bar = 1mm).

Referring to figures in the text can be done directly or indirectly (in parentheses) in the following format: Figure 1 or (Figure 1). 

Figures that have been previously published must contain source information and permission for reproduction. Photographs and illustrations (BITMAP) must be in TIF or JPEG format, in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi).

For illustrations and graphics (vector), use EPS, CDR, AI or WMF format.

Figures must be inserted at the end of the text after the cited bibliographies.

 

Tables

Tables must be of high quality and numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals. The maximum number of tables is five.

The numbering and title (short and descriptive) should be at the top of the table. Footnotes may follow the end of table.

Tables must be prepared in text editors (RTF or DOC), and cannot be inserted into the text as figures. The citation of the tables in the text can be made directly or indirectly (in parentheses) in the following format: Table 1 or (Table 1). 

Tables should not be inserted in the text, they should be placed at the end of the text after the figures.

 

Important

Papers that do not follow these submission instructions WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 

 

Scientific Notes

Scientific notes must be written in a unique sequence. They should include an Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Discussion section but not place them as subtitles. The text must include Summary and Keywords in Spanish and English. A maximum of two figures and two tables per note will be accepted. 

 

Publication Costs

Folia Amazónica does not charge any fee for review and/or publication of articles.

 

Additional Information

The editors of Folia Amazónica reserve the right to make normative, spelling and grammatical alterations in the original submission, with the purpose of maintaining the cultured norms of language, while respecting the authors stylistic choices.

After a layout is completed, the final proofs will be sent to the authors for correction, restricted to composition errors, and must be returned to editorial production on the stipulated date. Changes to the original submission will not be accepted at this stage.
